The New European Surgical Academy (NESA) congress 2009 will take place from 28 to 30 May in Athens, Greece.

The programme will cover the latest innovative surgical methods, such as the minimally invasive natural orifice surgical approach, and up-to-date pharmaceutical advances. Further topics include:
- bariatrics;
- breast cancer- new approaches, diagnosis and treatment;
- endoscopy, transgastric and transoral surgery;
- ethical aspects in surgery;
- evidence-based surgery;
- focused ultrasound, embolisation;
- laser - cryosurgery - radio frequency;
- new aspects in oncology;
- obstetric surgery;
- new horizons in pharmacology and surgery;
- quality control;
- robotics in urology, surgery, gynaecology;
- urogynaecology;
- vascular surgery.

Junior doctors will have the chance to present scientific papers, videos and posters, and to participate in a special workshop on the optimal way of scientific writing.
