Roundtable on bacterial triggers in the etiology of Crohn's and other diseases, Brno, Czech Republic
Mycobacteria have long been suspected of being a possible trigger of Crohn's disease, an inflammatory disease affecting the gastrointestinal tract. A similar animal disease, paratuberculosis (Johne's disease), has a high prevalence in dairy cattle herds in the European Union, USA and Canada. Thus, consumers can be exposed to bacterial triggers. Mycobacteria may also be found in drinking water. The present knowledge from different scientific fields will be discussed at the meeting.
