The EDC 2020 project is organising a policy forum: 'Fighting the global recession's storm: implications for European development cooperation' to be held on 27 May in Brussels, Belgium.

During the forum, leading experts will analyse critical issues surrounding the current global recession and its effects on developing countries. The implications of decisions made by the G20 and those formulated in EU policies will also be discussed. The programme will include an analysis of recent recommendations made by the European Commission under the Communication 'Supporting developing countries in coping with the crisis'.

This is an important moment in the history of Europe's relations with developing countries. In the near future, a number of decisions and steps will be taken, including the fate of the Lisbon Treaty, European elections and the nomination of a new Commission, which bear directly on these relationships.

EDC 2020 ('European development cooperation to 2020') is funded under the 'Socio-economic sciences and humanities' theme of the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7).For further information, please visit:
