Conference on research into illicit drugs, Brussels, Belgium
With up to two million problem drug users in the EU and around 8,000 drug-related deaths a year, research is key to understanding illicit drug problems and a central plank of the EU Drugs Strategy and its Action Plan on Drugs 2009-2012.
Research needs in the illicit drugs field cover many disciplines, including: clinical psychology, neuroscience, biomedical research, socio-economics, social sciences, epidemiology, genomics, pharmacology, toxicology, criminology, forensics and detection technologies.
The conference is set to bring together some 200 policy makers, researchers, research funding organisations and representatives from international organisations and the EU institutions. It will examine research in the field, taking a strategic look at future research needs and discussing how coordination and cooperation could be improved at national and EU levels to strengthen research capacity.For further information, please visit:
