Conference on the origin of galaxies, Obergurgl, Austria
Three major new facilities are at the disposal of European astronomers: the Herschel Space Observatory, the SCUBA-2 array on the renewed James Clark Maxwell Telescope, and part of the Atacama Large Millimetre Array. These new tools will provide insights into the origin of galaxies, thanks to their observations in the sub-millimetre (sub-mm) and far-infrared (far-IR) wavebands.
The aim of this conference is to bring together many of the European astronomers that have been planning related observations and those that have been improving and extending their galaxy formation models to include sub-mm and far-IR predictions at high redshift. The organisers also hope to attract significant participation from outside of Europe in order to compare results with non-European researchers and discuss the consequences for galaxy formation models in the light of all data obtained, including the wealth of multi-wavelength data that is being gathered using a wide range of instruments. For further information, please click:
