The DAMOCLES ('Developing arctic modelling and observing capabilities for long-term environmental studies') project consortium and the European Commission Directorate-General for Research are organising a scientific and political symposium about climate research in the Arctic from 10 to 12 November in Brussels, Belgium.

Under the title 'The Arctic climate system, its present status, future evolution and potential impacts', the symposium is intended to describe near-term scientific and technological challenges to a better understanding of the Earth's climatic system.

During the three days of the conference, there will be eight plenary sessions on:
- the arctic cryosphere;
- circulation, energy and fresh water budgets in the atmosphere and ocean;
- small scale physical processes and their representation in climate models;
- operational forecasting and reanalysis in the Arctic;
- new observational techniques;
- 'From expeditions to a network. How to integrate field work into a sustainable focused network?'
- predictability on synoptic, seasonal, decadal and climatic scales;
- 'Projections of the arctic future climate and its consequences for the carbon cycle, ecosystems and for human society'.For further information, please click:
