Workshop on 'Nanoparticles: characterisation and environmental risk assessment', Aveiro, Portugal

A one-week, post-graduate workshop on 'Nanoparticles: characterisation and environmental risk assessment' will be held in Aveiro, Portugal from 17 to 21 May 2010.

The event, which will bring together scientists, PhD and M.Sc. students, will provide information on the environmental risk assessment of nanoparticles, their chemistry and geochemistry. Aspects relating to the synthesis and environmental detection of nanoparticles will also be discussed.

Lectures will cover the following topics:
- nanoparticles,
- geochemical considerations,
- the role of natural organic matter in environment behaviour,
- interactions environmental transport,
- bioavailability,
- impact of released metals,
- materials characterisation necessary for environmental fate and effects,
