Final open workshop of the Sister project, Brussels, Belgium
This event is an opportunity to bring the intelligent transport systems and services (ITS) and satellite communication (satcoms) communities together to discuss the future deployment of satcoms within ITS. The project consortium will present and show the use of applications in the field, including:
- emergency calls,
- road user charging,
- dangerous and valuable goods management,
- digital map updates.
Demonstrations will show how satellite broadcasts can be used for value-added services and applications, where content distribution is crucial. Additionally, the audience will learn how existing services can be enhanced by bi-directional satellite systems, to complement terrestrial coverage. Other areas, such as how to avoid high roaming charges or improve system reliability where message delivery time is critical, will also be covered.
The Sister project brings together stakeholders from the value chain for road transport telematics applications and from the space infrastructure and service delivery industries. The project's objective is to answer to key questions like the kind of applications that can be enabled through satcoms, the value-added of satcoms to Galileo system applications, the potential of satcoms to support the development of Galileo commercial services, and the size of the market opportunity for satellite services to support ITS applications. For further information, please click:
