A conference on 'Nanomedicine in Europe: present and for the future' will take place on 2 June 2010 in Brussels, Belgium.

At the event, ten of Europe's foremost experts will discuss various viewpoints on the present state of nanomedicine in Europe and on the key issues and requirements likely to determine its future.

Session topics will include:
- 'Nanomedicine in the European Commission's action plans for nanotechnology',
- 'Nanomedicine to 2020',
- 'Changing academia/industry relations for nanomedicine',
- 'The view from a small nanomed company',
- 'Patients' views and needs',
- 'The regulatory framework',
- 'Safety aspects and risk assessment issues',
- 'Ethical and societal considerations',
- 'Engaging the public'.

During 2009, three European Commission projects gathered information and advice from more than 100 leading experts from academia, industry, regulatory agencies and patient organisations throughout. The exchange and sharing of information and the mutual involvement of the many experts in these and other national and European projects provide a solid basis for making recommendations for the successful and sustainable competitiveness of nanomedical research and development in Europe and of its healthcare industries.

This event will seek to capitalise on the work done and look for the way forward. For further information, please visit:
