A workshop on 'Long-term data archive study on new technologies' will be held from 6 to 7 July 2010 in Madrid, Spain.

The objective of the Long-term data archive study on new technologies (LAST) project is to evaluate new technologies and best practices for the implementation of a long-term archive for the ground segments of existing and future Earth observation missions. This takes place in the framework of the European long-term data preservation (LTDP) cooperation activities and the European Space Agency LTDP Programme.

The LAST project has three main phases. The first of these, due diligence, concerns the analysis of the archiving and retrieval needs of European Space Agency (ESA) and its partners. During the workshop, the preliminary results and findings of LAST on the search for a definition of a common set of requirements for this phase, while surveying the solutions and approaches currently in the field of Earth observation, will be presented.

Participants will have the opportunity to introduce current archive technologies while sharing needs and challenges with respect to the archiving and retrieval of Earth observation data for extended periods of time. For further information, please visit:
