The Sixth International Conference on Geographic Information Science will take place in Zurich, Switzerland from 14 to 17 September 2010.
Geographical information systems (GIS) are used to capture, store, analyse and present data that are, in some way, linked to a location. This means that GIS combine aspects of cartography, surveying, navigation, urban planning, resource management and even internet-based search localisation.
The conference will focus on basic research findings across all sectors of the field. In addition to the refereed full paper and extended abstract tracks, there will be two keynote lectures, a panel discussion and closing presentation. The first day of the event will be set aside for a series of workshops and tutorials on the following topics:
- 'Emerging methods for studying the use of spatial technologies',
- 'Role of volunteered geographic information in advancing science',
- 'Movement pattern analysis',
- 'Development of web GIS and web mapping applications with QGIS mapserver',
- 'Geometric algorithms and efficiency for GIS science',
- 'A practical introduction to geospatial visual analytics'.
