27 October 2010 - 27 October 2010
A debate, entitled 'On the margins of European citizenship', will be held in the context of the Festival des Libertés at the National Theatre, Brussels, Belgium on 27 October. In many ways, the European Union goes hand in hand with the promotion of European citizenship. But what does citizenship mean? How is it invoked or contested, and by whom? For many groups European citizenship is not a given, such as for EU residents from non-member countries, the Roma and state-less individuals. Still, many of these groups are striving to make their voices heard, practicing their own forms of citizenship. The debate is co-hosted by the EU-funded project 'Enacting European citizenship' (ENACT) which has studied these practices with the aim of examining the concept and limits of European citizenship. Researchers, political scientists, legal experts and European civil servants will share their viewpoints on these issues during the debate.
The event is in partnership with the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS), with the help of other valued contributors. Free entrance.
