The event 'Employment and poverty: the role of social partners in the fight against poverty and social exclusion' will be held at the Brussels Meeting Centre in Belgium on 20 October 2010.
The conference, organised by the European Social Observatory (OSE), is being held under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the European Union and in the context of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. OSE is a partner in the 'Reconciling work and welfare in Europe' (Recwowe) network of excellence supported by the EU's 'Social sciences and humanities' (SSH) programme.
The one-day event features four main sessions under the following titles:
- Poverty is everyone's business!
- When working is not enough: the working poor
- 'Active social inclusion' and job quality
- Conclusive roundtable: 'working together to tackle poverty and social exclusion'
Among the dignitaries expected to attend are Joëlle Milquet, deputy prime minister of Belgium responsible for employment and equal opportunities, and in charge of migration and asylum policy, as well as Philippe Courard, secretary of state for social integration and the fight against poverty. Robert Verrue, the general director for employment, social affairs and equal opportunities at the European Commission is also scheduled to speak.For further information, please visit:
