Science and languages in Europe
The conference is organized as part of the European Science and Technology Forum, set up by the Commission to promote reflection and debate on the historical, social, ethical and cultural aspects of science and technology.
The aim of the conference is to obtain an overview of the relationship between science and languages in Europe in their various dimensions: historical, sociological (what language is used in labs today?), epistemological (does the use of a given language have an impact on scientific work?), linguistic (can neologisms for scientific terms be created as easily in all languages?), etc. Economic aspects and the current situation of the publications and database markets will also be discussed.
