'Climate services: fit for purpose?' conference, Brussels, Belgium
The urge to build climate-resilient nations brings with it a desire for more detailed knowledge of the changes that lie ahead. In response to this demand, the idea of 'climate services' has emerged, whereby detailed climate information will be tailored to the needs of specific end users and delivered on demand.
In the past year, several nations set up national climate services, and last September the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) established a Global Framework for Climate Services, with the aim of providing climate data and information to users worldwide.
These and other entities will help supply information needed by decisionmakers and resource managers on how climate will change in the decades ahead and on regional scales. At the same time, the area of climate science is very much in its infancy.
Among the topics which will be examined are:
- Can climate services meet the expectations of their end users?
