A roundtable on the role of the European Union and multi-stakeholder partnerships in (post)conflict reconstruction will be held on 28 October 2010 in Brussels, Belgium.

The event will look at the work of the Multipart ('Multi-stakeholder partnerships in post-conflict reconstruction') project. Multipart is investigating whether, how, and under what conditions multi-stakeholder partnerships can positively impact on human security and facilitate non-violence and long-term peace. At the same time, such entities can also provide a productive framework for relations between local and external actors, including third party mediators and international organisations.

Since the launch of the project in 2007, partners have been conducting research of multi-stakeholder partnership in four sectors: (a) security; (b) economic and social development; (c) democracy, good governance and rule of law; and (d) confidence building. The project has based its empirical investigation on three case studies of core political interest to the EU today: Kosovo, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Afghanistan. Multipart established direct collaboration with local partners, namely the University of Pristina (Kosovo), POLE institute (DRC) and Kabul University (Afghanistan).

The event marks the third and last phase of the Multipart research project. It serves to present and discuss the findings of the three case studies and to give practical steps forward for the EU.For further information, please click: here(opens in new window)
