Third Annual Workshop on ICT and Global Development, St Louis, US
While much of the world's population is challenged by poverty, information and communications technologies can play an important role in alleviating this situation. New wireless technologies, for example, do not require massive investments in infrastructure and can enable communications, e-government, and telemedicine to be brought to even the most distant and impoverished populations.
Following earlier events, this edition will again provide a forum for discussion of practical experience and research related to the diffusion and use and of ICT in developing regions of the world. Session topics are set to include:
- social, political and legal frameworks for fostering ICT diffusion in developing regions,
- curricula in global development,
- methods for measuring the benefits and costs of projects involving the adoption of ICT,
- the role of human and social capital in effective access and use of ICT,
- critical and theoretical perspectives on the digital divide and social inclusion,
- scalable and economic ICT infrastructures
- educational systems,
