An online conference to prepare a proposal for a pilot European partnership on active and healthy ageing will take place from 26 November 2010 in Brussels, Belgium.

The partnership announced in the EU's Innovation Union flagship initiative, part of the Europe 2020 strategy, and aims to enable citizens to live longer actively, independently and in good health by increasing the average healthy lifespan.

This pilot partnership would build on integrated, stakeholder-led, citizen-centred and innovation-driven initiatives. The event is the first opportunity for stakeholder representatives to discuss their ideas and concrete actions for the partnership.

Europe 2020 is the EU's growth strategy for the coming decade. In a changing world, the Commission would like the EU to become a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy. Five objectives on employment, innovation, education, social inclusion and climate/energy, have been set. Each Member State will adopt its own national targets in each of these areas. The strategy will be supported by specific initiatives at the EU and national levels. To follow the conference via web-streaming, please click: here(opens in new window)
