'Road owners getting to grips with climate change', Cologne, Germany
Four research projects were selected in 2007 by the ERA-NET ROAD Programme to study such issues such as risk assessment, winter maintenance, flooding and impacts on road pavement. The initiative's overall objective was to investigate issues of climate change adaptation that would provide tools for road authorities to identify and prevent future problems to road infrastructure. The projects were:
- 'Improved local winter index to assess maintenance needs and adaptation costs in climate change scenarios' (Irwin);
- 'Pavement performance and remediation requirements following climate change' (P2R2C2);
- 'Risk management for roads in a changing climate' (Rimarocc);
- 'Storm water prevention - methods to predict damage from the water stream in and near road pavements in lowland areas' (Swamp).
The event will present project findings and recommendations. It will also highlight practical outputs that can be applied across Europe.For further information, please visit: http://www.fehrl.org/index.php?m=287(opens in new window)
