An event entitled 'Fracture control of spacecraft, launchers and their payloads and experiments' will take place on 23 and 24 March 2011 in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

Mechanical failures in space-related transport may result in loss of life, severe injury or major damage to the hardware must be prevented. Fracture control seeks to mitigate these catastrophic and critical hazards. It is an essential part of the structural verification of spaceflight vehicles, modules, payloads and ground support equipment.

To control risks, damage tolerance principles are studied to ensure that undetected cracks and other defects existing on the structure do not lead to failure within critical hardware. This, in turn, has a significant impact on how structural items are designed and tested.

The event will be a platform for discussions and exchanges between engineers and stakeholders in the area of fracture control of spacecraft, launchers and their payloads and experiments. It will be an opportunity to exchange information on practices, experiences and new developments relevant to a wide range of fracture control aspects. For further information, please visit: http://www.congrex.nl/10M68/(opens in new window)
