The First Iberian Workshop on Serious Games and Meaningful Play will take place from 15 to 18 June 2011 in Chaves, Portugal.

Traditionally, digital games have been used for entertainment purposes. However, as with conventional games, game play is a highly structured activity that can be designed to result in something meaningful. This approach is the foundation of 'serious games', an emergent and multidisciplinary research topic focused on using computer games with other purposes than pure entertainment.

Serious games have many applications domains such as education, training, physical and cognitive rehabilitation, urban planning, and so on.

The workshop will cover the varying dimensions of serious game research, including theoretical, methodological and technological developments, and new applications. The event will also be a forum where researchers, practitioners and industry representatives have the opportunity to present and discuss ongoing work and the latest research results. For further information, please click: here(opens in new window)
