The 18th Nordic Conference of Computational Linguistics will take place from 11 to 13 May 2011 in Riga, Latvia.

Computational linguistics is an interdisciplinary field dealing with the statistical and/or rule-based modeling of natural language from a computational perspective. It predates artificial intelligence, although the two are often grouped together.

Traditionally, computational linguistics is usually performed by computer scientists with a specialty in the application of computers to the processing of a natural language. The field can be divided into major areas depending upon the medium of the language being processed and the task being performed.

The event will be accompanied by three workshops on:
- 'Creation, harmonisation and application of terminology resources';
- 'Constraint grammar applications';
- 'Multilingual Nordic and Baltic linguistic training resources for minority and majority languages'.For further information, please visit: http://www.lumii.lv/nodalida2011/home.html(opens in new window)
