The final conference of the 'Media and citizenship - transnational television cultures reshaping political identities in the European Union' project will be held on 24 March 2011 in Brussels, Belgium.
Citizenship in the EU is no simple matter. All EU citizens are officially members of a nation state but many share family and languages beyond the Union. The Arabic speakers of the EU have access to over 300 satellite television channels. What is being watched, and how does that viewing contribute to Arabic speakers' understanding of their role in Europe?
The aim of the conference is to provide policy advice on issues relating to media regulation and citizen testing based how Arabic speakers themselves construct citizenship in the light of their media use, and their adopted national cultures.
The project brought together the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, Universität Bielefeld in Germany, the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom, Örebro Universitet in Sweden and Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3 in France and was funded under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).For further information, please visit: http://www.media-citizenship.eu/(opens in new window)
