An event entitled 'Inquiring minds - innovative pedagogies in mathematics and science education' will take place on 27 June 2011 in Brussels, Belgium.

A starting point for the EU's Innovation Union is the creation of a modern education system in all Member States. Schools ensure that young people are able to meet the challenges of the future. However, many European students have little interest in mathematics and science and do not choose to follow related careers. Consequently, Europe fails to meet the labour market needs.

Implementing innovative ways of teaching such as inquiry based learning in science and mathematics education is a key lever in bringing about change in this situation by raising students' motivation and interest in these subjects.

The event is being sponsored by the EU-funded 'Promoting inquiry in mathematics and science education across Europe' (Primas) project. The programme will include an overview of the work of the project and discussion of how to sustain implementation of innovative teaching methods towards 2020. There will also be opportunities for policymakers and educators to discuss how demanding educational innovation can become sustainable. For further information, please visit: http://primas-event.ph-freiburg.de/(opens in new window)
