A conference entitled 'Leveraging flagship opportunity for global science cooperation' will take place on 31 May 2011 in Brussels, Belgium.

The event will focus on new African astronomy projects such as the MeerKAT radio telescope and the planned Africa Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) Network as well as the exciting cooperation opportunities they offer to Europe.

Discussions will not only focus on how such cooperation can significantly advance excellence in global frontier research, but also how astronomy partnerships contribute to human capital development for research, and support sustainable development, including the fight against poverty in Africa.
