'ConTemp project midterm review consortium conference' , Berlin, Germany
Starting in 2009, researchers working on the 'Self-learning control of tool temperature in cutting processes' (ConTemp) project, sponsored under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), have been developing self-learning adaptive process controls to stabilise machining conditions. Conventional cooling methods have been found to have notable environmental and sustainability challenges.
The project marks the development of a new generation of intelligent and environmentally-friendly cutting tools to help European manufacturing. Not only improving part accuracies and productivity, the self-learning adaptive process controls offered by ConTemp will enable the cutting of a larger range of materials to be more economical by minimising tool wear. They will also mean a reduction of machining times and costs through a decrease in manufacturing times.
The conference will provide participants with a review of the work done to date with comparison to the original description of work, milestones and deliverables. Other topics will include the dissemination of the project in terms of market situation, prospects, policy framework and technological implementation plan. For further information, please visit: http://www.contemp.org/index.php?id=4(opens in new window)
