'Resources, recycling and alternative materials and implementation', Brussels, Belgium
The event will be a forum for demonstrating the results and outcomes of recent significant road research projects and their benefits for society and the environment. Sessions on the first day will be structured around the key topical themes of resources, recycling and alternative materials. The second day will look at implementation, resilience, mobility and environment, sustainable infrastructure, and knowledge transfer.
A number of projects funded by the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) will be featured at the event.
The 'Dismantling and recycling techniques for road materials - sharing knowledge and practices' (Direct-Mat) project will share its final conclusions. The project has worked to facilitate the sharing of national experiences on the dismantling and recycling or safe disposal of road materials through the building of a European web database and the drafting of best practice guides.
The 'End of Life Strategies of Asphalt Pavements' (Re-road) project will be presented. It is seeking to develop knowledge and innovative technologies for enhanced end of life strategies for asphalt road infrastructures.
The 'Poroelastic road surface: an innovation to avoid damages to the environment'(Persuade) project will outline its work on developing a durable, cost-effective poroelastic road surface. Taking advantage of used tyres, this would benefit the environment by not only significantly contributing to abating traffic noise and vibrations but also help to solve the problem of over three million tons of used tyres having to be dumped or burned every year across Europe.
The 'Developing the European transport research alliance' (Detra) project will organise a workshop on international cooperation. For further information, please visit: http://www.fehrl.org/?m=33&a=content&id=523(opens in new window)
