'Ethical issues in FP7 security research - a practical approach', Brussels, Belgium
Ethical issues are an important part of security research. National and EU rules have a variety of requirements relating to ethics, as defined in specific funding programmes and the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).
The event will seek to begin a discussion among stakeholders across the project life-cycle, from ethics evaluators to project coordinators and local/national and EU competent authorities. The aim will be to clarify applied procedures and facilitate the exchange of information and best practices.
The workshop programme will include the identification of the main difficulties in addressing recommendations for negotiations of ethical aspects, research project needs and the legal implications concerning ethics and data protection. This is especially relevant given the difficulties that projects may encounter when undertaking an authorisation or notification procedure at the local or national level and the lack of harmonisation of procedures at EU level. The agenda will also include issues like the notion and the appointment of data controllers, rule enforcement in non-EU countries, dual use, function creep and potential malevolent use.For further information, please visit: link(opens in new window)
