Workshop on knowledge discovery in healthcare and medicine, Athens, Greece
Society has benefited from continuous advances in healthcare and medicine resulting in substantial improvements in the quality of life. Better disease understanding, improved medicines and effective treatment protocols, among others, have contributed to an increase in life expectancy since the middle of the twentieth century.
In the last decade, however, there has been a slowdown in the rate at which new treatments are discovered and introduced into the healthcare system. At the same time, Ever-increasing costs associated with modern healthcare make it critical to reduce unnecessary treatments and procedures while ensuring the best possible health outcomes. Mining massive amounts of data being generated in healthcare is increasingly considered an integral part of technological breakthroughs needed to provide meaningful solutions.
The workshop will be organised around three themes:
- mining of health-related data;
- mining in drug discovery;
- mining for personalised medicine.For further information, please visit: http://www.cs.gmu.edu/~hrangwal/kd-hcm/(opens in new window)
