An event entitled 'Challenge Social Innovation: Innovating innovation by research - 100 years after Schumpeter' will take place from 19 to 21 September 2011 in Vienna, Austria.

Fostering innovation will be the cornerstone of future European research funding policies. The targets set out in the EU2020 strategy demand a broader concept of innovation, including the social dimension in technology and business innovation and implementing a coherent notion of social innovation in all sectors of society.
The conference will highlight research topics related to social innovation within the 'Socio-economic sciences and Humanities' (SSH) area of the 'Cooperation' Theme of the Seventh EU Framework Programme (FP7). While the concept of social innovation is not new, it has only recently been recognized as a key component of innovation in the European policy discussion.

The conference will emphasise the significance of social innovation as well as defining future research topics of social innovation. It will establish social innovation as an integral part of innovation, and promote an integrated concept of innovation that includes economic, cultural and social dimensions. It will show the advances of scientific conceptualisation of social innovation and research on innovation for development that is socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. Finally, it will aims at promoting FP7 SSH program implementation.

The three day conference will bring together the respective international scientific community to foster cooperative, interdisciplinary research in this field as well as a series of sessions that will take place moving from policy discussion and debate to FP7 networking and engagement. For further information, please visit: http://www.socialinnovation2011.eu(opens in new window)
