A workshop on privacy and security in online social media will take place on 17 April 2012 in Lyon, France.
Recent years have seen exponential increase in the use and presence of online social media. Popular websites have changed the way internet is being used and developed. This has led to a variety of concerns being voiced in the media and in politics for scalable systems to detect and defend security and privacy issues in online social media. At the same time, there is a need to investigate, study and characterise privacy and security of online social media from various perspectives (computational, cultural, psychological).
The workshop will seek to create a platform to discuss latest issues, trends and research in security and privacy in online social media. It will also bring together researchers and stakeholders who are working on related issues. Specific topics are set to include:
- information privacy disclosure, revelation and its effects in online social networks;
- collateral damage due to information leakage;
- privacy issues related to location-based services;
- effective and usable privacy setting and policies;
- anonymisation of social network datasets;
- detection and characterisation of spam, phishing, frauds, hate crime, abuse, extremism via online social media;
- identifying and curbing malware, phishing, and botnets;
- usability (including design flaws) of secure systems on online social media;
- data modeling of human behaviour in context of security and privacy threats;
- legal and ethical issues for researchers studying security and privacy;
