A 'Thermal impact on the damage zone around a radioactive waste disposal in clay host rocks' (TIMODAZ) project workshop will take place from 6 to 7 February 2012 in Saint-Ursanne, Switzerland.

Over the past few years, the EU-funded TIMODAZ project has investigated the coupled thermal-hydro-mechanical (THM) effects in clay formations foreseen as potential host rocks for the geological disposal of radioactive waste.

The event will present project results, discuss contributions from the area of the THM analysis of nuclear waste disposal systems, and host informal discussions and exchanges on THM issues in clays host rocks. Specific topics are set to include:
- the characterisation of host rock materials;
- the description and analysis of underground laboratory experiments;
- microstructural and multiscale analysis;
- constitutive and numerical modeling;
- long-term behaviour.For further information, please visit: http://www.argenco.ulg.ac.be/timodaz/index.html(opens in new window)
