An event entitled 'Renewable energy law 2012: market design and system transformation for a renewable energy future' will take place on 8 March 2012 in Brussels, Belgium.
With increasing interest in renewable energies, there is a parallel focus on the potential and need for renewable energy regulation. In the twentieth century, energy law focused mostly on natural gas regulation, but was expanded to include other areas of energy regulation.
This area of energy law relates primarily to the transactional legal and policy issues that surround the development, implementation and commercialisation of renewable sources of energy, namely solar, wind, geothermal and tidal. Renewable energy law also encompasses policies that relate to renewable energy and legislative instruments that further encourage its growth.
