The Ninth International Workshop on Text-based Information Retrieval will take place from 3 to 7 September 2012 in Vienna, Austria.

Intelligent algorithms for mining and retrieval are a key technology for coping with information needs in a society that is generating ever-increasing amounts of data. Advanced information retrieval and extraction uses methods from a variety of different areas, such as machine learning, computer linguistics and psychology, user interaction and modeling, information visualisation, Web engineering, artificial intelligence, and distributed systems.

The event will provide a common platform for presenting and discussing new solutions. Topics on the agenda will include:
- theory;
- mining and classification;
- community mining, social network analysis, structured retrieval from XML documents;
- information quality;
- text summarisation, keyword extraction and topic identification;
- paradigms and algorithms for information visualisation, personalization and privacy issues;
- user context;
- cross-language retrieval, multilingual retrieval and machine translation;
- evaluation;
- semantic web;
