The European Commission, DG III, is organizing a workshop on "The future of electronic data interchange standardization in Europe". It will take place on 16 February 1995 in Brussels.

The aim of the workshop is to elaborate a European electronic data interchange (EDI) infrastructure that covers all aspects of information interchange, and which will respond to user needs in a timely way, and be market driven, transparent and flexible. It must also allow participation from all interested parties and take into account the international dimension.

In particular, the workshop will discuss the proposals made on EDI, in particular the report produced by CEN identifying the requirements of various European sectors wishing to use EDI, and the proposal for a European standardization structure to consolidate the EDI process.
