A conference on "The role of technology transfer projects in the innovation process" will take place in Luxembourg on 21-23 February 1995. It will be opened by Mrs. Edith Cresson, the designated Commissioner for Science, Research and Development, and by Mr. Robert Goebbels, the Luxembourg Minister for Energy, Economy and Public Works.

The aim of the conference is to build on the previous experiences in technology transfer projects and to develop improved processes and policies. It is supported by the Third Activity of the Fourth Framework Programme.

Major themes for discussion include:

- The changing scene in innovation and technology transfer;
- The need and characteristics of technology transfer projects;
- Barriers to technology transfer;
- Management and dissemination strategies;
- Characteristics of Commission activities in the area, and their planned evolution.

The conference is aimed at all those concerned with the role of technology transfer projects in the innovation process. It will be of particular interest to organizations interested in participating in future Community programmes, and to policy-makers and planners responsible for stimulating the diffusion and use of technology and resources at the international, national and regional level. It will also be of interest to organizations such as technology providers, intermediaries, regional and sectoral support agencies, municipal authorities and SMEs requiring practical advice on the whole subject of technology transfer, and the management, acquisition and use of new technology.

A series of exhibitions will be held alongside the conference, including an exhibition of current technology transfer projects, and an exhibition of multimedia tools. The CORDIS information service will also be demonstrated.
