Nanotechnology is very large field, ranging from extensions of conventional device physics to molecular self-assembly and the development of new materials with nanoscale dimensions in order to allow control of matter on the atomic scale.
Over the next couple of decades - thanks to research and development - nanotechnology should benefit every industrial sector and the healthcare field. Nanotech does, however, pose new challenges to the scientific community. International co-operation is essential for its development, since scientific and technical challenges are huge and a wider critical mass is beneficial.
