Knowing where your food comes from may not be a question you ask yourself every day. However, for some people the composition of the food may be of importance for their health. Knowing what they have in their plate may be an issue of life and death. For others, this is linked to ethical or religious concerns. No matter what the reason is, consumers, over the last few years, have become more interested in the source and composition of their food.
The EU funded EuroFIR (European Food Information Resource) Nexus project aims to create a food composition information system and database supporting ethnic and traditional food in Europe. The consortium involves 49 partners from universities, research institutes and small-to-medium sized enterprises from 27 European countries.
