A conference entitled 'Geoinformatics for City Transformations' will take place from 21 to 23 January 2013 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Eastern and Central European cities currently face several challenges in terms of sustainable urban development. Some of these challenges are due to migration waves, political change, unemployment, economic upheaval and technological development. All these issues affect cities and their structures in one way or another.

Geoinformatics is the science of measuring, storing, organising, analysing and visualising data related to phenomena occurring on or near the earth's surface. In this case, the science measures and monitors city transformations. It can help to regulate the development of cities towards smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.

The event will be a forum for urban planners and geographers to discuss and exchange information and knowledge on new geoinformatic methods, issues and challenges, which could affect city transformation. For further information, please visit
