The First European Conference on Weight in Motion of Road Vehicles will take place in Zurich, Switzerland, on 8-10 March 1995. It is organized by the European Commission, DG VII, as part of the COST action on the process of weighing road vehicles while they are travelling at full speed.

Weigh-in-motion (WIM) technology has advanced considerably in recent years and systems are now being implemented in over 14 European countries. The method is being used for pavement design and maintenance, for the enforcement of axle-load limits, and for the calibration of the Eurocode on bridge loading. The conference will cover the following topics:

- Requirements and policies for WIM in Europe;
- Experience with WIM systems;
- National and international research projects;
- Testing of WIM systems;
- New WIM technology fibre optics;
- Collection and transfer of WIM data;
- Applications to infrastructure and the environment;
- Standardization and future needs.
