'Trauma: Theory and Practice', Lisbon, Portugal
Traumatic events are shocking and emotionally overwhelming situations that may lead to death, serious injury or threat to physical integrity. Reactions to traumatic events vary considerably, ranging from relatively minor to severe and debilitating disruptions in the person's life. Trauma studies have become a dominant methodology for understanding contemporary events and our reactions to them. Critics have argued that we live in a 'culture of trauma.' Repeated images of suffering and death form our collective and/or cultural unconscious.
This inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary conference seeks to examine and explore issues surrounding individual and collective trauma, both in terms of practice, theory and lived reality. For further information, please visit
