'Space Weather Workshop: Effects on Aviation - Building a Proportionate response in Europe', Köln, Germany
The sun usually goes through a periodic rise and fall in activity, and these solar cycles vary in length from 9 to 14 years. When solar activity is at its height - the solar maximum - disturbed ionosphere currents can affect the performance and reliability of space- and ground-based technology, particularly affecting aviation. While the next solar maximum could take place in the second half of 2013, measures can be taken to reduce the risk of infrastructure failure.
Jointly organised by EUROCONTROL and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), this workshop aims to help the aviation industry manage safety risk, raise awareness of the effects of space weather and elaborate on possible mitigation actions.For further information, please visit:
