Mutual economic dependence between nations is the corner stone of European integration. The latter requires a European Single Market without barriers to trade. European standardisation has been a core instrument to achieve this. A majority of European Standards have been initiated by business and developed in partnership with other stakeholders. Around 30% are mandated by the European Commission within the framework of EU legislation. Different standards per country, though voluntary, may hinder trade. Moreover, the EU gradually started using standardisation as an instrument for other purposes such as competitiveness, sustainability and innovation.
The European Academy for Standardization (EURAS), together with the European Standardization Organizations CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, are hosting the conference for all those interested in standardisation research. The aim and discussion will be centred on the current role of standardization and anticipate the direction of future standardization in Europe.For further information, please visit:
