A conference entitled 'Water-Rock Interaction' will be held from 9 to 14 June 2013 in Avignon, France.

Systems at the surface of the Earth are continually responding to energy inputs derived from solar radiation or from the radiogenic heat in the interior. These energy inputs drive plate movements and erosion, exposing metastable mineral phases at the Earth's surface. Interactions between water and rock play a critical role in regulating Earth's climate on geologic timescales and are important in many aspects of fossil fuel production, mineral extraction, and carbon sequestration. Understanding of the fundamental processes that govern global geochemical cycles and that are relevant to driving past and future climate change is greatly needed.

The conference will provide an international forum for researchers to foster scientific exchanges in all fields related to water-rock interactions, and in particular in fields such as environmental and risk assessment associated with contaminated water resources, shale gas exploitation, and geothermal energy.For further information, please visit:
