The First International Partnership Meeting on Safeguards will take place in St. Petersburg on 8-12 April 1995. It is organized by the European Energy Foundation and the Nuclear Society (Moscow), with the support of the SYNERGY programme of the European Commission, and in close cooperation with the STOA programme of the European Parliament.

The aim of the meeting is to promote cooperation between the European Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Baltic States in the field of nuclear safeguards.

It will bring together Parliamentarians, senior figures both from the governments and industry of the European Union and from the CIS and the Baltic States, to encourage the free exchange of information and views on the opportunities for modernizing or establishing reliable national systems of nuclear materials' accounting and control and export control in the CIS and the Baltic States.

The meeting will also suggest necessary actions by governments or international bodies aimed at strengthening the non-proliferation regime in their territories.
