The TELEMAN-HCM European Union Undergraduate Students Telerobotics Congress will take place in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands, on 1-5 July 1995. It is organized by the TELEMAN and Human Capital and Mobility programmes of DG XII of the European Commission, in collaboration with the Delft University of Technology.

The Congress is intended for 50 final year undergraduate engineering students from throughout the EU who have been carrying out research projects on telerobotics as part of their university studies.

The objectives of the event are to:

- Introduce the students to collaborating in European teams on a technically demanding telerobotics project, and help to promote a spirit of European collaboration;
- Provide the students with an insight into the type of work going on in EC-funded research projects through participation in workshops, poster sessions, and technical visits with engineers and scientists involved in the TELEMAN programme;
- Provide the students with potentially their first opportunity to attend an international technical conference where they can present their research projects to an audience of professional engineers and scientists;
- Promote the study of telerobotics in EU universities, and strengthen links and encourage the flow of information between students, academics and industrialists working in this field.

The Congress will include the second annual TELEMAN EU Students Telerobotics Team Competition where the students will be split into international teams of five students and will compete against each other to design, build and race telerobotic vehicles over an obstacle course representing a hazardous and disordered industrial environment.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to join in the workshops arranged in the parallel TELEMAN Telerobotics Research Conference, which will take place on 2-5 July 1995 (see RTD-News RCN 3698). Technical visits to the telerobotics laboratory at the Delft University of Technology and the European Space Agency are also being organized.
