The TELEMAN Telerobotics Research Conference will take place in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands, on 2-5 July 1995. It is organized by the TELEMAN programme of DG XII of the European Commission, in collaboration with the Delft University of Technology.

The aim of the conference is to allow industrial users, manufacturers, researchers and academics to come together to present and discuss the results of the research projects on telerobotics and remote systems for hazardous and disordered nuclear environments funded under the TELEMAN programme as a result of the TELEMAN second call for proposals (OJ No C 255 of 1.10.1991).

The five projects represent a complementary set of different classes of teleoperated devices which were identified by the various sectors of the nuclear industry as having the potential to meet their needs for inspection, maintenance, repair and accident intervention. The projects concern:

- A climbing/wailing robot;
- A light, tracked inspection robot;
- A self-assembling long reach device;
- A gantry-mounted manipulator;
- A robust, multibodied intervention robot.

While the TELEMAN programme focused on the needs of the nuclear industry, the aim here is to disseminate the results of the research not only to the nuclear industry but also to a broader range of potential users and manufacturers in order to facilitate exploitation, transfer of technology and exploitation of the research investment, and to identify EU telerobotics research priorities.

As well as the five projects, results from the 16 earlier TELEMAN projects will be presented in informal discussions and poster sessions.

Conference delegates will be able to attend parallel events, which will include the TELEMAN-HCM EU Telerobotics Students Congress on 1-5 July 1995 (see RTD-News RCN 3697) and the European Robotics Network (EURET) meeting. EURET supports the exchange of researchers between collaborating laboratories to help strengthen EU research competence in the field of robotics.
