The European Union will hold a stand on energy and the environment at the World Climate Conference (KLIMA '95), to take place in Berlin on 4-7 April 1995.

The Commission's DG XII (Science, Research and Development) and DG XVII (Energy) will present, by means of a joint stand, Community programmes which encourage innovative, efficient and environmentally friendly energy technologies to reduce environmental damage, particularly CO2 emissions.

The programmes will include:

- JOULE/THERMIE programme for non-nuclear energy;
- SAVE and ALTENER programmes promoting the rational use of energy and the use of renewable energy sources, especially by drawing up general recognized standards, technical specifications and directives;
- Energy Management in Regions and Cities programme focusing on energy cooperation at regional and urban levels;
- SYNERGY programme for third countries;
- Environment and Climate programme supporting research projects looking at the causes and effects of climate change and presenting a basis for further elaboration of a common environment policy.
