The European Commission Office in Germany is organizing a European Summer School on the Middle Classes in Germany and Austria. It will take place in Stuttgart, Germany, on 6-8 July 1995.

The event will focus on the situation of the middle classes and their expectations, particularly in Austria, of the European Union, as well as the impact of the opening-up of Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and Asia on the middle classes.

The following issues will be discussed:

- The changing face of Europe: Are the middle classes changing too?
- The new situation in Eastern Europe: the Commission's White Paper and new commercial policy;
- Community cooperation programmes for Central and Eastern Europe (PHARE) and the New Independent States (TACIS);
- Telecommunications and multimedia.
