Business Innovation Centres in Europe and the US
The aim of this study mission is to assist those involved in the establishment of technology parks, technopoles and incubators.
The event will offer presentations on three of the top incubator operations in the US. It will also include a number of workshops and case studies and offer the opportunity to meet with local public authorities and manufacturers in leading technology industries.
The event will enable participants to acquire a deeper insight into the operation of Business Innovation Centres (BICs) and their advantages for regional and local economic development and for local SMEs. It will also demonstrate how a BIC can be set up and run successfully.
Originally created by the Commission's Directorate-General for Regional Policies (DG XVI), Business and Innovation Centres (BICs) now number over 100, located mainly within the EU, but also in surrounding countries. To date, over 4,000 innovative SMEs have been created. EBN was created at the same time to coordinate and develop the BIC network.
